About Peter Morey

From capturing an intimate off- screen moment of Robert de Niro; to Nelson Mandela laughing at his birthday celebration; from innovative images of Emperors Palace to Tiger Woods’ triumphant whoop at the Million Dollar Golf challenge – these are the type of events that acclaimed South African photographer Peter Morey has been excelling at for over 21 years.

It’s no secret that for Peter, photography is both his profession and his passion. And it shows in the broad range of powerful images in his photographic portfolio.

After joining the Pretoria News photographic department in 1981, Peter went on to become its chief photographer, a position he held until resigning in 1990.

A year later, he channelled his creative expertise into his own business venture, Peter Morey Photographic.

Since then his Pretoria-based business has grown steadily, boasting an impressive array of clients that rely on Peter to deliver perfect images on time, every time.

Years as an award winning news photographer have not only enhanced Peter’s photographic expertise, but also honed his visual eye, timing and ability to anticipate the action even before the camera starts clicking.

Despite an enviable reputation in the industry as one of South Africa’s leading corporate, event and celebrity photographers, Peter remains refreshingly humble, down to earth and matter of fact about his achievements.

Morey Mindset

Every photographer has a unique mindset towards their profession. What gives Peter a distinct professional edge above other photographers is his flexibility, attention to detail and ability to think on his feet.

In addition, Peter believes that aspects such as meticulous pre-planning, establishing exactly what each client wants in advance and ensuring clients know what they’re getting; all play a vital role in delivering on his promises.

If a shoot requires him to work after hours, travel to other areas countrywide or get down dirty in a mineshaft to capture the essence of the event, Peter does it with a smile. Armed with his equipment and disarming personality, he’ll do whatever it takes and more to get the perfect shot for his client.

Luckily photography is not all hard work. With his out-the-box mentality, Peter always finds time to be creative after he’s got the shot his client wants by experimenting with different angles, exposures and techniques.

In the end, for Peter Morey, it’s all about making magic from memories through his camera lens to produce photographs his clients will be proud of for years to come.
